One of the best space opera romances I've ever read. Space pirates, a smorgasbord of alien species, high stakes and romance! Characters are fully realized, and the dialogue is witty and real and fantastic. The romance builds beautifully. I'm not a fan of instal-love/lust stories, and the reader definitely feels invested in Chaz and Sully's evolving relationship. These are intelligent and capable grown-ups, with a side of steamy magic-sex to up the smexy factor! A fun, well-written, well-paced space adventure that I would recommend to anyone.

I loved this book, with all its faults and potential improvements. It was a full story with a great plot and an interesting romance arc, with memorable, fallible characters and very detailed and believable storybuilding. It's everything a SFR reader wants. I'll be reading much more from this author.
Will have to finish this review quickly so I can look through Ms. Sinclair's catalog to figure out which book I want to read next. This is my first L.Sinclair book but it won't be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and characters. I loved Sully's vulnerability. I would have given this 5 stars but in the end I did get a little tired of Chaz learning about Sully's abilities one spoonful at a time it wasn't as convincing, towards the end, for him not to trust her anymore and I was slightly skeezed that he was less than truthful about "Ky'sara" at first.

That small criticism aside Gabriel's Ghost was great. Must go purchase more books.

This is my first time reading SF and I have to say I thought this book was great!. I love to be surprised (in a good way) and this book did that for me. I do wish I had watched one StarWars movie so I had a better understanding of space things.I will be reading the next book in the series for sure.
Truly excellent world-building, lots of action, decent romance. I felt like I was reading a movie, would LOVE to see this as a movie. I'm not generally a fan of first-person--especially for a romance--and I wish this wasn't. I read the excerpt, though, and knew what I was getting into; can't blame the author for that, even if I think the romance aspect may have suffered for it. I liked both the hero (who can resist are charming space pirate?) and the heroine, and found their romantic conflict quite believable. The secondary characters added quite a bit to the story, the alien Ren most of all. There's not a lot of good sci-fi romance out there, so I treasured this one all the more for its rarity.

HIGH LEVEL Book 1 of the "Dock Five Universe" sci-fi/futuristic romance series. While it isn't as good as Games of Command, it was smart, funny, and unbelievably romantic.

PLOT Intricate and high stake, our couple sneak across the universe and blaze across the page. In typical Sinclair fashion the romance was woven into the fabric of a thrilling, action-packed adventure. The romance was fun and playful and then really emotionally intense. Strong elements of discrimination that were at times unnerving, but lent additional depth to the story. (Maybe a TAD over done, though.)

CHARACTERS Two strong, sexy leads and very colorful supporting cast. The issue I had with this book was the number of times Chaz discovered Gabriel had lied to her. He did it for good reasons, but it was distracting. That started to get really old, really fast. The other, minor issue was that it struck me as silly that Chaz, a professional woman, was referring to emotions and empathic communication as "sending rainbows." That was a little hard to take seriously. Gabriel was a very well written character- multi-faceted, strong and passionate yet emotionally damaged. These were, generally, very smart characters. My personal favorite was the best friend Ren- who was the man I actually wanted for myself despite his being an alien!

SEXUAL CONTENT None for most of the book and then a very sweet seduction. Minimal "on screen" and what there was tended to be highly metaphoric.

BOTTOM LINE Great story, fun read, sexy, sympathetic characters. Aside from a couple minor annoyances, this is highly recommended.

1. Anne Aguirre's Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, Book 1)- a techie space borne sci-fi series with a strong female lead and a healthy splash of unconventional romance
2. Christine Feehan's Shadow Game (GhostWalkers, Book 1) - paranormal romance series that focuses on characters who have gained psychic powers through medical experimentation
3. Linnea Sinclair's An Accidental Goddess (Bantam Spectra) - lightly magical sci-fi romance
4. Linnea Sinclair's Games of Command - another sci-fi romance with political intrigue, psychic predators against a spunky captain and her very sexy, but emotionally challenged biocybe admiral.
5. Nalini Singh's Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changelings, Book 1) - romance series which features weres and psychics, but also carries plotlines with some substance
In a nutshell....Chaz is a falsely accused military Captain who is sent to a prison world. Sully, the pirate she chased for most of her career, breaks her out to help with a mission to undo a conspiracy within the government. Along the way she finds love and overcomes prejudices society has inflicted on her.

The story could have been a lot better. In the end the only feeling I had about this book is that I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either. The story almost felt like a run on sentence to me. It had parts that just kept going and going, while other more interesting parts were short and over before they even started. Without giving any spoilers, the slow building "ah-ha" moment took 80% percent of the book to get to. It was a little too slow building and ended up hampering the story as a result.

The main characters started off good, but morphed into something not recognizable as that of the characters they started off as. Sully started a confident and cocky space pirate but by books end there was none of that left in him. Chaz basically broke down from bad ass military captain to an angst ridden teenager.

I was not able to read this book for a long stretch at a time and was something I had to keep going back to. When the book was done and the whole plot revealed, I realized I liked it. That being said I was really on the fence while reading it. I don't think I will be able to go right into book two, I will need a little time between books.
