Project Cyclops Thomas Hoover Books
This story is reminiscent of Die Hard in the fact that there is one rogue good guy working behind the scenes to foil an entire group of terrorists. Enter our hero, Michael Vance, whom we were originally introduced to in Project Daedalus and seems to have a profound talent for showing up in the wrong place at the wrong time ... or maybe fate has decided that it was the right place at the right time, since without his efforts the world as we know it would be terminally altered. Unlike Die Hard these terrorists are not looking to procure finances through theft, but by taking over a private experimental facility. This facility is history in the making, using a new technology to launch satellites into orbit. The head of this terrorist cell doesn't have to be a scientific genius - though he is - to realize that what goes up must come down. He plans to use the facility's capabilities to launch a nuclear bomb that can be delivered anywhere in the world and use this strategy as nuclear blackmail in an attempt to demand 800 million dollars from the President of the United States. The plot is intelligent and well thought out with plenty of twists to keep you on the edge of your seat and your fingers flying through the pages. The more that I read of Hoover's books the more grateful I am that I found his work hiding amongst the plethora of free books available on Amazon. I strongly urge all Kindle users to look into this wonderful source of reading material and be willing to try out new authors. Project Cyclops Thomas Hoover Books Reviews
This book was entertaining and easy reading. At times due to the language used it was difficult to follow. But for a casual reader this was a good book. Unfortunately, not on a par with Tom Clancy and his novels.
If you enjoyed Clancys works you certainly will enjoy these.
This, like Project Daedadlus, is a science fiction novel which would be best suited to the young, or the young a heart. It is not in depth but more surface type reading. It can be engaging but it is not involved or indepth. Just an easy plot line of hero's a bad guys each trying to get the advantage on the other. It's O.K. but if your looking for something intense the try something else.
Thomas Hoover is a great writer, but you would never know if from reading this book. The story is totally unbelievable and the actions of the characters make little sense. I honestly gave it my best after reading his wonderful novel, Mogul, but gave up about 2/3 of the way through. I just could not swallow it down anymore.
Exciting book, a James Bond type action with terrorists, a space launching pad, nuclear weapon, friendship between men and our hero. An incredible story, science and security topics amazingly accurate... A deep look into the human psyche of several characters (Mr. Hoover's forte) tie yourself to you chair with a good drink and expect to be rocked!
An excellent read.
Not my usual genre in books, but it kept my attention. Lots of action and intrigue to keep the plot moving.
Like the other couple of books I have read by this author, the only flaw I can find in it is the extensive use of technical details, in this case the weapons and military terms and the scientific logistics of the laser. Is it really necessary for the reader to have an in-depth description of EVERY type of gun, what it looks like, how it works etc.?
Other than that, a good read, with continual action and suspense and believable characters. I recommend it.
Other than a glacier like slow down in the end I enjoyed this. Felt like things were grinding to a halt. I liked it.
